French is the official language of France, but due to its proximity to other countries and tourism, English, Italian, German, and Spanish are often available in the media.
The Marseillaise, the French national anthem, was first sung in Strasbourg, not Marseille.
The majority of people are Christian.
The name France comes from Latin Francia, which literally means "land of the Franks". Originally it applied to the whole Frankish Empire, extending from southern France to eastern Germany.
Tour de France Every summer more than 100 professional cyclists race in the Tour de France. The race is approximately 2,000 miles long. The race lasts up to three weeks, it is held in July and the route changes from year to year.
There are 27 wine regions in France.
The Statue of Liberty was made in France, and given to the United States as a gift. The statue’s face is thought to be modelled on that of Isabella Eugenie Boyer, the Parisian wife of sewing machine manufacturer Isaac Singer.
French was the official language of England for over 300 years.
